"If I can do it, you can do it." I hate this phrase. Judgmental. Ablest. Competitive. I no longer have any space for it.
There was a time I used it to deflect compliments, as short-hand for, "I'm not special." It wasn't until it was weaponized against me that I realized how hurtful it could be.
It says, "You aren't trying hard enough." It also assumes someone else's physical, emotional and financial capacity-- and no one is under any obligation to disclose these things to you.
Be careful of it's sibling, "If they can do it, you can do it." Not only does it have the same effect, but it discounts the struggles, work, and accomplishments of others as well.
